Rosemont College Heritage Day - October 8, 2008

The Rosemont College community celebrated their legacy and that of Cornelia Connelly. During a Liturgy, Sr. Helen McDonald, Leader of the Society’s American Province, gave a reflection. Later, Sr. Eileen McDevitt, Director of the Holy Child Network of Schools, gave a presentation entitled, Rosemont’s Mission flowing from Cornelia Connelly’s philosophy.

   
Opening Celebration - October 12, 2008
The Bicentennial Celebration began with a Mass at St. Agatha-St. James Church in Philadelphia, PA, followed by a reception at the Hall of Flags on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. More than 600 people attended! To see video highlights of the Opening Celebration, click here!
   
Celebration at St. Ignatius - October 12, 2008
Members of St. Ignatius parish in Chicago, Illinois celebrated the 200th Anniversary of Cornelia's birth.
   
Rededication of Holy Child Park - October 12, 2008
Holy Child Park at St. Mary’s Parish was rededicated, followed by a tea for SHCJ and Associates. The Sisters of the Holy Child taught at St. Mary’s School in Melrose, MA from 1909-1982. Today, Sisters of the Holy Child continue to serve the parish.
   
Holy Child Reception - October 18, 2008
At Our Lady of Lavang (formerly Holy Child Academy) in Portland, OR, the Sisters of the Holy Child hosted a reception for Associates, alums, and friends. Former students from many of the schools that the Sisters of the Holy Child taught at, attended.
   
Eucharistic Celebration - October 19, 2008
Centro Cornelia Connelly, which opened in 1995, is run by three Holy Child Sisters in Santiago, Chile. It is a place of gathering that offers day-long retreats & spiritual direction to the surrounding communities. A Celebration was held, which consisted of a Mass, Reception, and Cornelian Quiz!
   
Mass at Trinita dei Monti - October 27, 2008
Cornelia discerned her vocation to begin a new religious congregation, the Society of the Holy Child, at the Chapel of the Sacred Heart Convent in the church of the Trinita dei Monti in Rome. The Opening Mass for the Bicentennial was held at the Trinita. Cardinal John Foley presided.
   
Profession of Perpetual Vows - November 15, 2008
During a Mass at the Immaculate Conception Chapel in Rosemont, PA, Mary Kerner and Aquilla Peterson became Sisters of the Holy Child,after taking perpetual vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
